In early 2010, the Company established the Loncor Foundation, a registered charity in the DRC, funded by the Company with the goal of improving the quality of life and opportunities for communities near the Company's exploration projects. In meetings and discussions with community representatives, it was determined that the Loncor Foundation will focus primarily on health and education projects. Several community leaders have graciously volunteered to represent their communities on local Loncor Foundation committees.
Based on their advice, the Loncor Foundation initiated a number of community projects near the Yindi and Makapela prospects at Ngayu and at Manguredjipa in North Kivu Province. These include the construction of a new primary school, now completed, and a medical clinic near Yindi, where the Loncor Foundation is also contributing 40 hospital beds to existing clinics. A donation of clothing has also been made to a local Pygmy community in need. At Makapela, the Foundation is helping to finance a nearby clinic that is already under construction. Loncor Foundation projects at Manguredjipa include financial support for a community electrification project and the construction of six showers and latrines at the Manguredjipa General Hospital, as well as the donation of a motorbike for use by medical staff at the hospital.
